Position Summary

True North Ale Company is offering an exciting opportunity for a dynamic go-getter who will work tirelessly to continue to provide an amazing experience for our customers. We are seeking the person who craves a challenge and will help to chart the course for our Taproom to become a renowned destination for craft beer enthusiasts. Primary responsibilities include maintaining the highest levels of customer satisfaction, achieving aggressive revenue targets, and actively promoting fun and interesting Taproom activities. Tasks include scheduling and supervising bartenders, opening and closing the Taproom, scheduling and managing food trucks, managing merchandise sales, updating and posting beer menus, and maintaining draft systems. Secondary responsibilities include advising owners regarding Taproom design, beer selection, social media presentation, and overall marketing strategy.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain the highest levels of customer satisfaction
  • Effectively promote and sell great beer
  • Ensure the Taproom is a welcoming, fun and interesting gathering place
  • Manage Taproom general day-to-day operations
  • Determine the appropriate Taproom staff; help to hire and directly supervise bartenders
  • Open and close service in accordance with operating procedures
  • Respond to and resolve all issues during service
  • Oversee the Toast point-of-sale system; open and close cash drawers, petty cash and cash out for each shift
  • Find, book, and permit food trucks for high volume tap room hours
  • Maintain strong food truck relationships
  • Check and update menus ensuring offerings are accurately posted
  • Collaborate on website design; make marketing recommendations including brand positioning and menu presentation
  • Work with Chief of Brewery Operations to manage Taproom beer stock
  • Work with Chief Financial Officer to order supplies for food service offering
  • Engage new and regular customers in conversation and gather how their experience at the Taproom is going and what you can do to make it better
  • Educate our customers about our beer, beer in general, and the processes behind making it
  • Develop training procedures and deliver new employee training
  • Work with Chief of Brewery Operations and Head Brewer to develop continuing education and sensory training for staff, including development of ‘talk-sheets’
  • Identify and recommend corrective actions for safety issues
  • Schedule and manage public and private special events
  • Manage retail sales of merchandise and packaged beer for off-premises consumption
  • Supervise and assist in the cleaning of the Taproom and the stocking and sorting of inventory
  • Ensure Taproom employees consistently apply all critical procedures ensuring legal compliance
  • Perform draft maintenance in the tap room and event tap boxes (will train the right candidate)
  • Other related duties and projects assigned from time to time
  • And most importantly, contribute the leadership required to make the Taproom a fun place to work and a fun place to visit 

    Qualifications

    • Stellar work ethic
    • Minimum one year of bartending experience and the knowledge of how to properly pour a beer
    • Demonstrated management capability; Management experience preferred
    • Experience in the brewing industry or homebrewing preferred
    • TIPS Certified. If not currently, you must become certified before starting work

       Working Conditions

      • Elevated noise level
      • Customer flow may vary extremely, requiring a great deal of flexibility in accomplishing tasks
      • Exposure to high temperature around appliances
      • Slippery floors from spills
      • Work 40+ hour weeks, including nights, weekends, and frequent overtime

        Physical Requirements

        • Able to tap kegs
        • Able to move and lift ⅙ BBL kegs (60 lbs) solo
        • Able to move/roll ½ BBL kegs (160 lbs) solo
        • Ability to lift ½ BBL kegs with a partner is a plus
        • Able to steadily carry trays of drinks and empty glasses for cleaning
        • Work with appliances, primarily dishwasher and convection oven

        Salary  $45,000.00 - $55,000.00 per year
